We are so proud to tautoko the “Waewae the 35” kaupapa, as Te Aorere Pewhairangi walked Highway 35 from Gisborne to Hicks Bay, to raise money and draw attention to the impact extreme weather has had on east coast communities and this highway.
17 March: #waewaeThe35 and Raukūmara Pae Maunga crew prepare to walk into Te Araroa together.
There was an awesome community turn out in Te Araroa to support and hikoi alongside our whanaunga in his last stretch to the local township.
The ecological crisis of Te Raukūmara impacts heavily from maunga to moana and what we see on SH35 is devastating for us as haukainga. When you get behind the Waewae the 35 campaign you’re not only supporting the kaupapa, but you’re supporting our small communities who live along SH35 and feel the effects of isolation strongly.
Kia kaha tatou e te iwi! #KoTeRaukūmaraTeNgahere #RaukūmaraPaeMaunga #waewaethe35
