Kiekie

One of the sweetest kai in our Raukumara Pae Maunga. Male and female kiekie flowers and fruits are both edible. The male flower is the sweetest and was much prized.

So much so that the leaves were weaved over the developing flowers to protect them from hungry rats in pre-european times and possums in modern times.
